Selling a vehicle without a Safety Certificate.
Do you need a RWC to sell a car in QLD? Is it illegal to sell a car without one?
It is illegal to sell a registered QLD car without a safety certificate, however it can be sold unregistered, and the plates removed without a RWC. Vehicles can still be sold for parts,
but they must also be deregistered with the plates removed before being offered for sale.
If you wish to sell it registered, then it has to have a Roadworthy Certificate. Vehicles that are unregistered or are traded to, or between, licensed motor dealers do not need a safety certificate.
When do I need a Mobile Roadworthy Brisbane for a trailer?
- Trailers (including caravans) with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of 750 kg-3,500 kg
- Trailers with an ATM below 750 kg, don't need one.
How long are Safety Certificates valid for in Brisbane QLD?
- Motor Vehicle Dealers—certificates are valid for 3 months or 1,000 km - whichever comes first.
- All other certificates are valid for 2 months or 2,000 km - whichever comes first.
You can use the same safety certificate to register an unregistered vehicle and then transfer the registration,
